In 2006, we set out on a mission to recapture Central Orange County for the voters of the 47th Congressional District. Now in 2008, we are completing that mission.

America is a land of great opportunity. I am honored to be a candidate for the United States House of Representatives in Washington D.C. When I was six years old, my family came from Guatemala to the United States in order to escape Communism's expansion in Central America. Early in life, I acquired a deep love for freedom and a respect for individual human rights.

As an elected official, serving on the Santa Ana School Board for 17 years, a Biola University Trustee, and an elementary school teacher, I have fought for quality education for our children. My signature issue on the school board has been to end the failed bilingual educational methods, insisting that children learn in English. As a "Back to Basics" school board member I have also successfully restored phonics reading, basic math, and required all eighth grade students to pass a U.S. Constitution Test.

I am committed to ending gang violence. I was appointed to Santa Ana's "EPIC" Anti-gang Commission (Early Prevention and Intervention Commission), which is charged with creating a long-term gang prevention plan for the city.

In 1997, I founded the Orange County Youth Commission ("OCYC"), a non-profit organization that is committed to providing exciting character building, after school programs such as the Santa Ana Boxing Club. (A recent full-page article in the OC Register Newspaper read: "Reformed Contender: At the Santa Ana Boxing Club youth once troubled are being transformed.")

My opponent, Loretta Sanchez, is the member of congress most funded by the pornography industry and is known for holding fundraisers at the Playboy Mansion. My opponent also believes that larger, more costly and constrictive government is the solution, giving the power that belongs to the citizens to legislators and judges. Additionally my opponent has blocked efforts for America to become energy self-sufficient, voting against using our own oil resources 11 times in just the past 12 months, causing the price of gasoline to go up while raising economic and security risk for our country.

It is time to restore dignity and competence to this Congressional district.

We must respect marriage as a sacred covenant between a man and a woman. As a pro-life candidate and the original co-author of the Parental Notification Initiative, I will continue to work to strengthen the family and ensure parental rights.

In Congress, I will advocate for local control in education, reducing wasteful government spending, market-based economic solutions, and energy independence. We must keep our nation safe from terrorist threats through stronger border enforcement.

America has been a blessed nation. Our national motto, “In God We Trust” means a lot to me and my family.

As your congressional representative, I will work hard to make our nation and our communities here at home a better, safer, and more vibrantly productive place to live. I respectfully ask for your vote on November 4th.
